NOTE PLEASE – Our Annual Dues were raised by one dollar to $94.00 per year by action of the Grand Lodge in the 2016 GL Communications. Our By-Laws specifically pass through GL increases in per Capita when enacted. This one dollar per member in Arizona is donated by the Grand Lodge of AZ to the George Washington Memorial Site fund.
19 Regular Members have not paid their 2017 Annual Dues. Time to send them in, please!
SPECIAL ACTION REQUEST: Members are still invited to participate in contributing to the BR John Wayne Memorial Perpetual Membership Fund (make donations to Marion McDaniel Lodge). Donations will close at the end of February. The Fund has $515 of the $930 one-time Fee due to Grand Lodge to commemorate our Brother, which becomes a Memorial Perpetual Membership for the Lodge with dividend income to the Lodge in perpetuity.

You will notice from the Officer line listing there have been some changes in officers since the stated meeting and installation. As happens to all of us at times, life, family, & work has gotten in the way for Brothers Erik and Terry and is preventing them from having the time and energy to devote to an officer’s position in the lodge. I want to acknowledge both of them for not only the time they have put in up to now, but for the courage to keep family as a priority and make the decision to step back for a while from the line positions. I look forward to seeing both of them in lodge and back in line when their schedules permit!
My acknowledgements continue as I want to welcome, thank, and recognize those Brothers who have moved up and into different line spots! Brother Matt Hedrick will be moving into the Senior Deacon slot which will mean lots of memory and ritual work for him. Knowing his caliber of character and work ethic I have no doubt he will be amazing in the position. Brother Stephen Lamb will be our new Junior Deacon and, like Brother Matt, I have no doubt based on his dedication to our lodge and his stellar performance at the Shrine, he will make us all proud! Brothers Allen Morgan and Samuel Talvy have stepped in to take the Senior and Junior Steward roles and I again thank them for their commitment to the lodge in both time and energy and, like the other line officers, I know they will work diligently to gain the skills and knowledge to perform the duties of those positions!
With all that being said, we’re off and running with several degrees and practice already scheduled! We have also reserved the staircase in Douglas (thanks WB Bil Hole!) for March 18th so we can do the FC degree on an actual staircase! I will also be scheduling a work day for the lodge in the not too distant future and I’ll be inviting the other lodges that meet in our building to join us. I’d like to spruce the old girl up with some deep cleaning, paint where needed, and a strip, wax, and buff for our floors.
I leave you with a quote from BR John Wayne: “Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It’s perfect when it arrives and puts itself into our hands. It hopes we’ve learned something from yesterday.”

Happily, I am wrapping up my travels to the Great White North (MI) and will be now able to practice our craft without the vicissitudes and inclemencies of the seasons. But, degree prep in Coach leaves little time for higher Masonic thought so sadly, this month, I am bereft of any light to share. That having been said, please remember our MM Degree on 2/20 at the lodge and the FC Degree on Saturday, 3/18 in Douglas, on the real staircase.

As no two men can agree as to what is beautiful in a material sense, the Masonic conception of beauty cannot be of a material beauty. It's a symbol of beauty - the sun at Meridian - is actually blinding to see. If we think the sun is beautiful, it is, for what it does for us rather than for what it is.
We still have a lot of work ahead of us in this coming year. I am calling all of us 'back to labor' to see what the beauty of masonry is.
